    Statement from the California Department of Justice regarding this training course:

    Penal Code Section 26165 requires that new and renewal CCW license applicants complete a course of training that is acceptable to the local licensing authority and meets certain minimum criteria. In paragraph (3) of subdivision (a), that statute specifies that the training course must, at a minimum, include a component on mental health and mental health resources that is no less than one hour in length. In paragraph (4) of subdivision (a), the statute states that all other components of the CCW training course must be taught and supervised by firearms instructors certified by the Department of Justice, as specified further in California Code of Regulations, title 11, sections 4410 through 4412. However, this requirement expressly does not apply to the component on mental health and mental health resources.

    As a result, the Bullet Points Project’s training course video titled “Firearms & Mental Health” need only: (1) meet the minimum criteria required for the CCW training course component on mental health and mental health resources (as specified in Penal Code section 26165, subdivision (a)(3)); and (2) be acceptable to the local licensing authority.
